Kaatru Veliyidai Music Review

If an upcoming music director or an aspiring one is asked to imagine about the combination of these words –AR Rahman, Maniratnam and Vairamuthu, we are sure imaginations would run like golden streams. Kaatru Veliyidai is no exception as it comes up with more such bonanzas, where the songs haunt you unconditionally making you fall in love with it over and again.

Jugni
Singers: AR Rahman, Tejinder Singh
Rap Vocals: Rajakumari, Shikara
Lyrics : Shellee

This is a stylish, fast-paced Western based number. Jugni has an amazing touch of Punjabi flavour blended to it’s Western backdrop. The use of synth is evident, and the electro music takes over in this song. The rap lyrics are catchy, and the English vocals also add to the positives. The ending has a bang too, making it a fantastic combination of well-packaged layers to cater to all music genre lovers.

Vaan
Singers : Shashaa Tirupati
Lyrics : Vairamuthu
There are infinite thoughts and assumptions that keep flowing and when they happen to give just a small sprouting of one or two lines as in ‘Kaatru Veliyidai Glimpse’, it’s more than enough to have the exhilarations finding no ends. Such is the song of Vaan, where we find the soulful melody haunting us vividly. The beautiful rendition by Shashaa Tirupati is heavenly and evens the smallest bit of instrumentals keep us addicted

Saarattu Vandiyila
Singers: AR Raihanah, Tipu, Nikhita Gandhi
Lyrics: Vairamuthu

The entire month of February had its adornment with the coupe of single tracks from Maniratnam-AR Rahman combo of ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’. With both the songs set in different tempo and musical momentum, it all turned to be a huge mellifluous and peppy treat with Azhagiye and Vaan that were released on February 1 and February 14 and in a span of 15 days, the third track ‘Saarattu Vandiyila’ has been revealed.
In contrast to the previous numbers that had lots of western and new age music, this one stands out to be a rural based marriage song that instantly grabs our attention. When it comes to marriage songs in Maniratnam movies, we are definitely bounded to get transfixed over the fascinating musical composing and the visual picturing. Apparently, we are assured that here comes a best successor to ‘Yaaro Yaarodi’ from Alaipayuthey and then ‘Nenjinile’ from ‘Uyire’.
AR Rahman’s sister Raihanah and Tipu along with Nikitha Gandhi have crooned it with the appealing rendition. It has perfect southern slang, especially with the portions involving Raihanah. The backing vocals by with Arjun Chandy, Nivas, Santhosh, Aparna, Deepti Suresh and Abhay Jodhpurkar are very well orchestrated. The musical accompaniments are so simple and it has interludes that get a best touch of embellishment.
Azhagiye
Singers: Arjun Chandy, Haricharan, Jonita Gandhi
Lyrics : Karky

This is a pure AR Rahman magic, which comes with his routine pattern, where for the first time you hear it and there isn’t anything much you find there. But by the second or third time you hear it, madness and addiction gets overloaded. Much alike all his usual patterns, he loads the song with more and more layers. From the chorus to the minutest instrumentals out there as fill-ins, the songs get us imbibed and there is no way you stop listening to the song.
Verdict:
its set of songs high on romance from the master combination of Mani Ratnam and Rahman.
Rating: 3.5/5
